Planet Friendly Inks Incorporated Into FPA Print Productions
Posted: May 5, 2010  inDid You Know?

The ink industry was the one of the first to be effected by the environmental movement in the US and has a long history of adaptations to be friendly to the environment.

FPA has chosen the Wilflex Epic Ink System, making its manufacturer a leader in the “green” category. By industry standards the ink brand is still way ahead of the game, just as it was when its maker was the first to take the lead out of plastisol ink
25 years ago.

Not only is the system non-toxic, but has an impressive array of mixing colors that have
a soft hand and smooth, matte finish. It has proven to be easy to work with while accurately creating simulations of Pantone colors, the worldwide standard for color matching.

FPA’s production manager, Tom White explained further, “The system consists of 15 colors in 1 gallon buckets and a 5 gallon bucket of mixing white. These 15 colors along with the white can be used to make almost any color that is in the PMS, or Pantone Matching System booklet. The inks are made for a ‘going green’ generation. It does not contain harmful chemicals that the other older inks carry.”

FPA continues to look for innovations that improve efficiency and at the same time implement higher standards for the care of our planet.

FPA Takes On Big Brands, Charities and Stars
Posted: April 22, 2010  inDid You Know?

Full Press Apparel owners, Tracey and Danny never imagined they would be tackling projects for national name brands in a city ranked 8th largest in the state and 134th in the nation with a population just tipping over the quarter million mark in 2003.

Though they are both very humble about it, their hard work in Tallahassee since 1997 has been rewarded with some impressive names giving them the thumbs up. Wouldn’t you say, “Doesn’t hurt to rub shoulders with the BIG guys in the world of marketing brands, charities and pop culture?”

Here’s the short list of national brands FPA has done projects for: Pepperidge Farms, JC Penney, Holiday Inn, and Allstate Insurance. And printing done for well-known charities are: Ronald McDonald’s House, March of Dimes and Children’s Miracle Network.

And even more intriguing is the FPA line up of celebrity projects: Shaquille O’Neal, one of the largest players in the NBA and the American R&B girl group with lead singer Beyoncé, Destiny’s Child. They sold over 50 million records worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling recording artists in the U.S.

Next: Danny was asked to do a job for an American football linebacker in the National Football League. He was the 28th NFL draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1995 and played college football at Florida State. You know his name, Derrick Brooks. FPA was also entrusted with a project for Collective Soul, an American rock band originally formed in Stockbridge, Georgia. They enjoyed popularity in alternative rock, mainstream rock, and pop music through the 1990s and following decade. They have recorded seven #1 mainstream rock hits to date.

Another big name: Creed, is a rock band from our own backyard, Tallahassee, Florida. They became popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The band disbanded in 2004 after three multi-platinum albums, selling 26 million records in the United States and
an estimated 35 million records worldwide. Danny printed some incredible T-shirts that were very popular with Creed’s fans.

And last but not least, Full Press was awarded a job for the Atlanta Falcons, an American professional American football team based in Atlanta, Georgia. Currently a member of the NFC South division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL), the Falcons joined the NFL in 1965. In their 43 years of existence, the Falcons have compiled a record of 275–400–6 with division championships in 1980, 1998 and 2004. They have one Super Bowl appearance, Super Bowl XXXIII in 1999.

How To Pick The Best Fabric For Your T-Shirt
Posted: March 20, 2010  inDid You Know?

Fabric determines many factors about a t-shirt, such as printability and how well it will hold its shape after wearing and washing.

Pre-shrunk cotton will still shrink, especially when thrown in the dryer. The best way to avoid any sort of shrink at all is to buy pre-shrunk cotton and air dry it after you wash it.

The surface of combed ring spun cotton is exceptionally smooth and tight-knit and ideal for screen printing and embroidery.

Cotton is a natural fiber, the most popular in the world. The fibers are usually one half to 2 inches long. Longer fibers produce finer cotton fabric.

The combing process separates the more desirable longer, thinner, more even fibers from the less desirable shorter, coarser, less consistent fibers. A higher count of thinner fibers tightly twisted together make a stronger, smoother, finer thread. This finer-knit fabric is softer and lighter to touch.

T-shirts can be made from jersey material, cotton spandex, among many others. If you want a T-shirt that is soft and flexible you may want to try fine jersey. If you seek a durable heavy fabric, interlock is a good option for you.

Polyester/cotton blends are a favorite because they don’t shrink in the wash or fade in the sun.

Jersey fabric is a type of knit textile made from cotton or a cotton and synthetic blend. The fabric is warm, flexible, stretchy, and very insulating, making it a popular choice for the layer worn closest to the body. Jersey also tends to be soft, making it very comfortable. Basic t-shirts are made of cotton jersey. Fine cotton jersey is usually smoother and has a lighter weight per yard.

The textile is named for the island of Jersey. Jersey is the largest of a group of islands known as the Channel Islands, located between England and France.

Polyester is a manufactured product made from synthesized polymers. It tends to be very resilient, quick drying, resistant to biological damage such as mold and mildew, easy to wash, and able to hold forms well.
